Frequently asked questions

Is Unlock Word, Excel & PowerPoint free?

Yes — completely free, with no signup and no watermarks. PL Tools is supported by a small number of non-intrusive ads.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Unlock Word, Excel & PowerPoint runs entirely in your browser, so your files never leave your device and are never sent to our servers.

Is there a file size limit?

Nothing is uploaded, so there's no upload limit — but very large files depend on your device's memory. Files up to about 100 MB work well on most computers; phones may struggle with much larger ones.

Can it open a file if I don't know the password?

No. It removes a password you know. It doesn't guess or crack passwords — a wrong password simply fails, and nothing is decrypted.

Which files work?

Word, Excel and PowerPoint files saved by Office 2007 or later (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx and the macro-enabled .docm, .xlsm, .pptm), including the AES-256 encryption Office uses today. Older .doc, .xls and .ppt files aren't supported — save them as the newer format first.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The file and the password stay in your browser; the decryption runs on your device. The result is checked to open without a password before you download it.

Does it change the content?

No. You get the document exactly as Office stored it inside the encryption — only the password is gone.

Which formats are supported?

Input: Password-protected .docx, .xlsx or .pptx (and .docm, .xlsm, .pptm), plus its password. Output: The same file without the open password, checked before download.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. PL Tools works in any modern browser on iPhone, Android, tablets and desktop — there's nothing to install.
