Why doesn't it need the password?
These restrictions don't encrypt anything — the content is readable and the file just asks Office to block edits. Microsoft describes them as a way to prevent accidental changes, not as security. If the file also needs a password to open, you'll be asked for that one.
Is anything else changed?
No. Only the restriction settings are removed; text, formulas, formatting and every other part of the file stay exactly as they were. Only remove restrictions from files you own or have permission to edit.
Which formats are supported?
