Is Redact PDF free?
Yes — completely free, with no signup and no watermarks. PL Tools is supported by a small number of non-intrusive ads.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Redact PDF runs entirely in your browser, so your files never leave your device and are never sent to our servers.
Is there a file size limit?
Nothing is uploaded, so there's no upload limit — but very large files depend on your device's memory. Files up to about 100 MB work well on most computers; phones may struggle with much larger ones.
Is the redacted text really gone?
Yes. Pages with redaction boxes are rebuilt as images, so the text, images and hidden layers under the boxes are removed — not just covered. After saving, the tool checks that those pages contain no text at all.
What's the catch?
Text on redacted pages can no longer be selected or searched (other pages are unchanged), and links on those pages stop working. Keep your original if you need it.
Does it remove information from file properties too?
Redaction covers page content. To clear the document's title, author and other properties, run the file through Remove PDF Metadata as well.
