Is Image to Text (OCR) free?

No. Image to Text (OCR) runs entirely in your browser, so your files never leave your device and are never sent to our servers.

Is there a file size limit?

Nothing is uploaded, so there's no upload limit — but very large files depend on your device's memory. Files up to about 100 MB work well on most computers; phones may struggle with much larger ones.

Which languages can it read?

English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Odia, Urdu, Nepali, Sanskrit, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Pick every language in the image — for example English + Hindi for a bilingual notice.

Does anything get downloaded?

The first time, your browser downloads the OCR engine (about 4 MB) and each language you pick (1–3 MB) from the jsDelivr CDN, then keeps them cached. Only those program files are downloaded — your images and PDFs are read on your device and never uploaded.

How can I get better results?

Use a sharp, evenly lit photo taken straight on, with the text filling most of the frame. Printed text works best; neat handwriting is hit-and-miss. If the result looks wrong, check the language setting first.
